Ok, so since I wrote last, there has been a whirlwind of activity in my life.
Friday, I was “laid off” from my job. It is all good, I have filed for unemployment and am actively searching for a new job. A HUGE weight has been lifted from my shoulders, let me tell you. Long story short, I was hired to work for the company, NOT the owner’s family, and he couldn’t understand why I had a problem with him thinking it was ok that his daughter could call in and dictate letters to me and then fax them. He also felt that it was fine for him to call me at any given time and have me run to his house to take care of his dog…hello? I was hired as an administrative manager, not your family’s personal assitant. I wasn’t being paid enough to do both, trust me. What really sucks is, I LIKED the job I was hired for, more than I thought I would. It’s all good though, it will work out fine, it always does
My uncle’s services were Sunday evening and yesterday morning. His viewing was in the Poconos. That’s where he and my aunt retired to, their “cabin” in the Heights. The Heights, really Pocono Heights, is where I spent a lot of time as a kid. We had a summer home there too. After his service, we were invited back to the clubhouse in the Heights were friends of my aunt and uncle put together a dinner for everyone who attended his service. It was really nice. The clubhouse is a new one, the original burnt down 20 years ago. I have such fond memories of the clubhouse from when I was a kid. I blew my first bubblegum bubble in the clubhouse
Weird memory, huh? The clubhouse is up on a hill and overlooks the lake we swam in as kids. The lake looked so huge to me as a kid. Now it looks like a huge puddle
I have lots of memories of being at the lake with my aunt and uncle and cousins…good times.
His funeral was yesterday in Paoli, he’s being buried next to his parents. It was such a nice service. It was a celebration of his life. He had a good one. He was such a funny, laid back, genuine guy. He loved golf and the Philadelphia Eagles. He traveled with the team when they went to the superbowl in New Orleans. I was SO JEALOUS as a kid that he got to do that
I BEGGED him to put me in his suitcase and sneak me on the plane too, ha ha ha! I remember looking through all his pictures with him when he returned from N’awlins. He was so excited to show me the pictures. He loved to travel too. He and my aunt saw amazing places. He was laid to rest in his bright green Masters’ jacket and one of his golf clubs was in there too
It sucks he’s gone, this world was definitely a better place because of him. RIP Uncle Ponz, we sure will miss you.
The luncheon afterwards was nice. My aunt, his widow, sat with me and the kidlet for a bit. She and I have always been close. She asked me to come and visit with her for a couple days. We are going to since I have some time off
The kidlet and I are really looking forward to it. I think she is too
So, there ya have it. You are updated and I am off to catch up on y’all…and surf the classifieds…and then go swimming
Yanno, I have been trying to get here all day to blog about my awesome weekend, but my boss won’t stop hovering around my desk trying to converse with me about things I just don’t care about. How rude.
So, the weekend camping trip was an effing blast as predicted. I left work at 12:30 and picked up the kidlet. We went to the bank, the “spirits” store and the dollar store to pick up a few last minute things then headed home. We put the remainder of our camping stuff in the RV and headed out to pick up MOK at his house.
It took us less than an hour to get to the campground. Traffic wasn’t bad at all, thank goodness. When we arrived, Scott & Jackie were already there setting up “Camp Gehris”. They tent and have an awesome set up. Princess Dorkita likes her way of camping, drive into site, plug in plug and camp
HA HA HA! RVing is just better for the kidlet’s asthma. And, it’s better for my back, so there.
Jacks and I had to run out to the local grocery store for a few items and the kidlet and MOK hung out at camp with Jacks’ hubby, Scott. I am pretty sure they chilled in the RV playing playstation (yeah, we took playstation camping, so what??? ha ha ha) until I got back. On our grocery store adventure, I spotted the Trojan Condom bus (hey, while you’re there, click for a free sample!) driving on Route 78, pretty effing hilarious. I wish I would’ve been able to snap a picture of it.
We got back to camp and Jacks’ brother and his wife had gotten there and were set up right behind Camp
Gehris (I was across the street from Camp Gehris). I went to the RV and made the boys some sammiches and then we wandered over to the fire ring and all sat around it and chilled out and then crashed a little early.
Saturday morning we were up earlier than I thought we’d be and had some breakfast. We eventually wandered out to Camp Gehris and chilled. At some point, Jacks and I wandered down to the showers and cleaned up. And then it was back to chilling. Jacks, Brittany, Shelby (those girls are awesome – Brittany is Scott’s sister’s daughter and Shelby is a cousin of Scott and Brittany) and Jacks’ brother and his family headed out to hike at Hawk Mountain while Scott and the kidlet, MOK and I stayed back to chill out. Scott was cooking chili and I had some kabobs to make for dinner.
It was during this time, while taking my doggus for a walk, that I met Becca (insert Psycho music here). I was just walking along, minding my own business when she approached me and asked if she could pet Rudy.
From then on, she followed me around and I couldn’t get rid of her. She kept coming to Camp Gehris and asking if the boys wanted to play and they just wanted to do their own thing. Then she kept bugging Brittany and Shelby to hang out. It was crazy. At one point, Jacks finally told her we were all just chilling and spending time together and she went away for a little while. She was stalking us, big time. Eek.
Later on that night around the campfire we were all trying to figure out what the heck “Dutcho” was and decided it was some crazy form of bingo. We laughed a lot about it. Then we made smores and eventually we all headed to bed.
Sunday, some of Jacks’ friends stopped by to visit and we took the kids to the pool. They all swam in the frigid water for about 11 minutes, ha ha ha. Then we headed back to camp to get ready to make some dinner. We hung out and ate dinner and made a fire and made smores. We tried something new with a slice of banana on them, ok, yum! Awesome!
When it was time to leave Monday, we were all bummed out! But, we packed up and decided we needed to plan the next adventure soon! I took lots of pictures of course. There were lots of laughs and a ton of memories made this weekend.
Oooh, on the way home, we stopped at Cabela’s since it was so close by the campground. That was something else, let me tell ya. The boys were ooohing and ahhhing over all the different types of animals on display. It was crazy! I have pictures I took there on my flickr, you can click on the side bar over there —–> if ya wanna check’em out
I cannot wait for our next adventure, woo!
So, how was your weekend?
Yeah, not gonna happen this week…I’ve got lots of words to share people!

I can’t believe it’s been a week since I blogged! I swear, if I could just telepathically blog from my brain to here, it would be AWESOME!
Let’s see…last Thursday evening was a soccer board meeting, nothing major to report there, we talked soccer. Friday night, MOK spent the night with the kidlet. Then, we all got up on Saturday morning and went to my eye doctor appointment before their game. They were oh-so-delighted they had to sit in the waiting area while I got my eyes checked. After the eye doc, we went to the field where they were going to be playing and our U9 girls were playing there, I encouraged my boys to cheer from the sidelines and they did
The girls were blushing, but I think they were secretly enjoying that all the boys were cheering for them, ha ha ha. I totally punked them into cheering too, I bet them they couldn’t cheer louder than me. And, to prove that they could be much louder, they did it. Gullible, I tell you.
We played our game after the girls and Sweet Jesus on the mountain, it was the best damned soccer they have played all season. I was certain that someone replaced my boys when I wasn’t looking, ha ha. No, seriously. They kicked some serious booty. The kidlet had the first goal…which he shot and it bounced off the other team’s player and went in. Pretty exciting. Then, the other team scored one and we were tied. I was biting my nails, it was so exciting. Even the parents on the sidelines were on their feet cheering all sides on. We were tied for a long time in the second half and then all of a sudden, it was like less than a minute remaining and then we scored again…this time, it was MOK. OMG, can you say excited…it was our first win this season and the boys deserved it…they worked hard, played like a TEAM, and just looked awesome out there on the field. Super exciting stuff. Oh, and, the kidlet took a ball to the face, full force, in the eye, saw stars and everything…don’t worry, he’s fine
I made sure of it. My heart did stop for a minute though when it happened, it was like a “matrix” moment in my head, like I could see it all slo-mo going toward his head and there was nothing I could do to stop it. He was trooper and got back up and wanted to continue to play…
It put me in a super good mood the rest of the day, I was just so proud of all the boys, how they finally worked together and were successful! WOO. We went home and MOK came along with us to stay over again. When we got home, the kidlet’s eye looked a little swollen and he said he had a little headache, so I gave him some ibuprofen and kept an eye on him the rest of the afternoon to make sure he wasn’t acting weird, well weirder than normal. He was fine.
Later on, after the boys ate, they reminded me that the last time MOK stayed over that I promised they could put our camping tent up in the kidlet’s room and “camp out”. So, I set up the tent in the kidlet’s room.
Sunday morning, I was still riding on a high from the day before, until I got a not-so-nice email from a parent of one of the kids on the soccer team. The gist of it was that his kid didn’t get enough playing time in the game and he went as far as to say that my co-coach and I “crushed the dreams” of a 9 year old boy. Ok, those of you who know me know I am not a dream-crusher of anyone of any age. I let the email get to me, and I shouldn’t have. This particular child is not the most athletic kid I have ever met, but he tries like mad. He is also the kid that frequently tells me he’s too tired to run and has a side-stitch. Long story short, dad is trying to vicariously live through his child.
Speaking of my co-coach, she’s got cancer. I know, right? She’s my dear friend, I was devastated. It’s liver cancer, she’s gotta do three months of chemo to start. Yesterday, she asked me if I thought she was gonna make it through this…what do you say to that? I told her that I didn’t know, but she needed to do what the doctor tells her, go through the chemo (easy for me to say, right?) and take it one day at a time. I told her I am here, by her side, for support, as a shoulder to cry on and to hold her hand if she’s scared. She’s upset at the thought of losing her hair, and I get that, but knows it’s better to be bald and here than have hair and not. I told her that if it made her feel better, when she started losing it and needed to shave it off, I’d go with and shave mine off too…then, next season when we coach…we can do it bald together
After that discussion, I cried my eyes out…cancer sucks, period.
Ok, so now that I have completely bummed you all out…geez, who invited me to this party anyway…
Seriously though, if you are the praying sort, send a few up for my friend Maria. I would appreciate some positive vibes sent out her way and I am sure she would too.
Aight, I have to get back to work now…I shall not wait so long to blog next time…
